Asda has completed the first phase of a project with Coding Management to investigate how it can improve its coding accuracy and product traceability and reduce the amount of product and packaging waste that goes to landfill.

Nottingham-based Coding Management, the advisory division of coding specialist Claricom, has reviewed the coding and labelling operations of several Asda suppliers and identified improvements that could be made throughout the supply chain.

“We are now discussing how to implement these recommendations in a phased approach,” said James Butcher, managing director of Coding Management.

John Clague, head of technical, Asda Brand, said coding errors caused a large number of the retailer’s withdrawals.
