Contract packer IPS has started a joint venture with Culina Logistics to provide food and drink contract-packing services at Culina’s 10 depots across the UK and Ireland.

Culina IPS Contract Packing aims to help meet increasing demand for shelf-ready packaging formats and reduce customers’ environmental impact by cutting the distance goods are transported.

Culina chief executive Thomas Van Mourik said it made “complete sense” for the two firms to join forces.

“By working with an established packing company that offers unrivalled expertise across the food and drink sector, we can help our customers make their supply chains even more cost-efficient and greener by reducing their food miles,” he said.

The joint venture will offer a wide range of packaging services including multi-, selection, promotional or added-value packs to meet customers’ individual requirements.

It will also offer hermetically sealed bagging, flow-wrapping and cartoning as well as more standard co-packing such as sleeving, shrinkwrapping, labelling, metal detecting and re-casing.

IPS managing director Andrew Dawson said the joint venture would provide a competitive advantage for customers.

“It will create a win-win situation by having a positive impact on manufacturers’ bottom lines and minimising the impact on the environment,” he said.

The service will initially be introduced at Culina depots in Stafford and Wolverhampton before moving to other sites.

Culina provides warehousing and distribution services to ambient and chilled food and drinks brands across the UK and Europe.
