Plamil Foods has called on Allen Coding Systems to install a second 53LTi thermal transfer printer as part of an overhaul of its coding and marking set-up

The organics and ethical food producer has had the printer retrofitted on an older packing machine to apply best-before codes, times and batch numbers to a range of substrates.

The 53LTi prints at up to 300dpi and boasts a 600m ribbon capacity, with a 53mm x 30mm print area. In terms of speed it is capable of printing up to 250mm per second.

Plamil Foods, based in Folkestone, Kent, is both a food producer and contract packer specialising in products such as no-added-sugar chocolate bars and jars of spreads and egg-free mayonnaise.

The products are then supplied to retailers, wholesalers and food catering companies in 40 countries across the globe.

Adrian Ling, a spokesman for the firm, said: “It was a tricky installation but the Allen Coding team persevered until they got it right.

“We have a policy of dealing with ethical businesses so it says a lot that we continue to go back to Allen Coding.”
