Palletised freight specialist Palletways has expanded its London hub in a bid to broaden its reach in the south of the UK.

The company said that the expansion would mean deliveries would cover less mileage and will give customers a more competitive cost structure. The expansion means that its London base, in Greenford, will have room for another 1,000 pallets.

“We followed a similar strategy at our hub in Scotland a few years ago and that was highly successful,” said Craig Hibbert, Palletways managing director for the UK member network.

Andy Turner, Palletways managing director for UK-owned operations, added that the expansion would lead to a significant reduction in its carbon footprint.

In addition, Palletways has rolled out a major marketing campaign. Part of the drive involves a giant hot air balloon in the shape of a dragon. Around 100 marketing events will take place across Europe over the next two years. The first was held in London next to City Hall near Tower Bridge.

Palletways distributes small consignments of palletised freight and operates in sectors including food and drink. Its other main centres are in Livingston, Scotland, and Litchfield, Staffordshire.
