Timestrip hopes to clean up with toothbrush timer

Timestrip is targeting further growth in the toothbrush market for its timer technology after securing a deal to supply a retailer’s own-brand for a new product launch later this year.

Timestrip said that European instructions for toothbrushes to replaced at least every three months opened the door to a potential “major revenue source”. Around 110 million toothbrushes are sold each year in the UK alone.

While the initial order is said to be modest, joint chief executive Paul Freedman said there was a compelling argument for a timer in the toothbrush.

“The global opportunity is self-evident and we are delighted to be taking this important step towards mass-market commercialisation of the technology in this sector,” he said.

The Timestrip will be integrated into the toothbrush handle and activated by the consumer. A window in the handle will enable the consumer to monitor the changing colour to know when to buy a new toothbrush.

The supplier and retailer have not been disclosed for confidentiality reasons, but the product is scheduled to be launched in the third quarter of this year.

The order comes as Timestrip received a PCD cosmetics award for its collaboration with Cargo cosmetics that was also recognised with a UK Packaging Award in November.
