Crusaders Rugby League team in north Wales has announced local employer Tetra Pak as its new sponsor as new signing Welsh international Gareth Thomas prepares to make his debut today.

The international aseptic carton manufacturer has its UK headquarters in Wrexham and will sponsor the Crusaders for the rest of the season and supply the team with cartons of water.

The announcement coincides with the news that Gareth Thomas, who played rugby union for the Cardiff Blues, is expected to play his first game for the Crusaders against the Catalan Dragons today.

Celtic Crusaders commercial director Mike Turner said: “It’s a very exciting time for us at the moment as Gareth Thomas gets ready for his game on Friday. We’re also making real progress to become more green thanks to Tetra Pak.”

Tetra Pak UK marketing director Anders Olsson said the company was always looking for opportunities to support the local community.

“Cartons of water are ideal for sports – they have easy-open caps and their lighter-weight design means that they are easy to carry during travel and training,” he said.

Wrexham is also home to five-bring bank sites where residents can deposit used Tetra Paks.
