Wiseman Dairies joins Courtauld Commitment

Wiseman has already reduced its milk bottle caps by 20%, which are used on approximately 330 millions packs of milk per annum.

Consequently, the company has diverted approximately 133 tonnes of waste plastic from landfilll each year, the equivalent of seven Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The company is now focusing on meeting the targets outlined by the Courtauld Commitment: delivering an absolute reduction in packaging waste by 2010.

Wiseman’s Courtauld Commitment targets, such as zero waste to landfill, tie in with its wider strategy to ensure the long-term sustainability of the dairy industry.

Martyn Mulcahy, group operations director at Robert Wiseman Dairies, said: Previous experience has shown that making small adjustments to the packaging across our product range is achievable and saves huge volumes of plastic over the course of a year.

The company has invested £318m in dairy network that rationalises the amount of food miles travelled by locating dairies close to major milk fields on major motorway routes.

WRAP’s Director for Scotland, Iain Gulland praised Wiseman for its efficient supply chain and added that Wrap is looking forward to collaborating with them on future projects.
