Environment secretary Hilary Benn announced today (25 March) the changes had been made to address the “confusion caused by the myriad of services and bodies” that worked to improve resource efficiency.
“Under Wrap’s leadership we will provide a one-stop shop for resource efficiency advice. This should make it quicker and easier for people to get what they need.”
Wrap chief executive Liz Goodwin said having a single organisation would “make it less confusing” for business to access the programmes on offer.
“It also provides an opportunity for economies of scale as we will now share services and support over a wider range of activities than Wrap or any other organisation has been able to achieve to date.”
Richard Swannell, Wrap head of retail programmes, told Packaging News the next 12 months would be a “transitional period” to determine how the body would function, but said there were currently “no plans for redundancies or to change the branding” of the organisations.
“Liz Goodwin is determined that the new role doesn’t distract from the work we are doing on packaging, retail and food,” he said.
