Nampak names Reid as Europe chief

Nampak has appointed Tom Reid as managing director of its European business, filling the void left by the retirement of former European chief executive John Monks three years ago.

South African Reid has experience across the company, having started in 1990 in marketing before being appointed managing director of Foodcan followed by Nampak Corrugated.

Reid relocated to the UK with his family in 2003 to become managing director of Nampak Plastics Europe, where his main focus was on the milk industry.

Nampak chief executive John Bortolan said of Reid: "Tom's successful track record, together with his extensive experience and proactive approach to doing business, will ensure that he contributes positively to the future of Nampak Europe."

Since Monks' retirement in 2004, the three divisional heads of Nampak Plastics Europe, MY Healthcare and Nampak Cartons Europe have reported directly to the group board in South Africa.

Reid's appointment comes two months after Nampak announced it would retain its European operations, following a strategic review.

Nampak is still to name a replacement for Reid as divisional head of Nampak Plastics Europe.
