Portola Packaging gains green accreditation for waste efforts

Plastic packaging manufacturer Portola Packaging UK has been awarded ISO 14001 environmental accreditation for its work to minimise waste and energy use and maximise its reuse and recycling of raw materials.

The company produces more than three billion closures for the dairy, juice and water sectors annually.

Managing director Glenn Heighington said: "We recognise that our activities have the potential to provide a significant environmental impact.

"Having assessed all of our activities and set targets for improvement we have taken huge strides forward and as a result of a sustained programme, we have made significant improvements on all of our environmental impacts including a 75% reduction on landfill waste."

Portola Packaging primarily operates in the US and has operations in the Czech Republic, China and Mexico.
