Nanotechnology potential is huge

Nanotechnology could “radically change” packaging, according to industry expert Dr Graham Moore.

Moore, head of strategic consultancy at Pira International, said nanotechnology could be used for lightweight material or even to alter the permeability of a material.

During a seminar at Total, Moore said nanotechnology was only just emerging in the packaging industry.

“We’ve been talking about it for some time and it’s only now that we see a shortlist of [emerging] products,” he said.

While expensive, he urged companies to do a cost benefit-analysis to see its benefits.

He cited Dragon International’s use of nanofilm for pharmaceutical companies.
