Mondi to upgrade microwave packaging
Mondi Consumer Flexibles plans to launch the third generation of its Neo-Steam microwave packaging in 2008.
The Neo-Steam system integrates a valve into high-barrier films to regulate the pressure within packs that are designed for frozen or refrigerated food in pouches, bags or trays.
The company received positive test results for the system while at Interpack and told Packaging News that it was working towards getting patents in place before releasing further information.
However, the next step for Mondi Consumer Flexibles will be to test the product with an as yet unnamed customer, according to marketing manager Alexandra Lindenthal.
Mondi Group displayed Neo-Steam at Interpack, alongside products from its containerboard, corrugated and flexibles divisions.
Biodegradable films and coatings were shown on a separate stand in the Bioplastics hall.
This was the first time that Mondi had presented itself as one group since it demerged from Anglo American and listed on the Johannesburg and London stock exchanges in July 2007.
Mondi has production facilities across 35 countries and 35,000 employees.
In 2007, the group reported revenues of €6.3bn.
Mondi is in Hall 9, stand C20/D19.
