Mondi invests in Bobst gluer for retail-ready packs

Mondi, the paper and packaging manufacturer, has installed a Bobst multi-point gluer at its corrugated packaging plant in Scunthorpe.

The installation is part of ongoing investment and development at the site, which has also introduced four-colour printing and upgraded its corrugator.

The new machine will be used for a range of product lines, including carry-home packs for wine and retail-ready packaging, and can operate at speeds of up to 10,000 units an hour.

Possible designs include four-corner glued trays and lids, six-point glued hinged boxes and crash-lock bottoms, which Mondi said had "all been designed with the end user in mind".

Each design involves multi-point gluing a flat die-cut blank and folding the box down flat, meaning the user has to simply pull the pack open prior to filling.

Phil Dean, sales and marketing director of Mondi's UK corrugated box plants, said the firm was constantly looking at design to "make retail-ready packaging more appealing and efficient to use".
