Crown Easylift wins twin golds at Starpack Awards

Crown Food Europe, Webb Scarlett deVlam and Mailway Packaging Solutions were big winners at the annual Starpack Awards ceremony in London last month.

Crown took a special award and two gold stars – for technical development and consumer products – for its Easylift easy-open can end.

Webb Scarlett deVlam took the award for best packaging design house, for entries including the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature feeding bottle, which won gold and bronze stars, and the lightweight glass bottle for Plymouth Navy Strength Gin, which won bronze in the drinks design category.

And Mailway Packaging Solutions, the Bradford-based contract packer, was rewarded for the use of polylactic acid (PLA) sleeves on containers for Nude Skincare, taking gold in the brand design and cosmetics and toiletries categories.

Judges awarded a total of 15 gold stars, 25 silver and 31 bronze. Three entries were commended and four individual prizes were handed out.

Other winners included DS Smith Corrugated, which took a gold star in the transit - business to business category for its Office Depot Campaign Pack, a reusable pack for advertising and campaign materials.

Coca-Cola took gold in the environment - pack optimisation category for its lightweight contour glass bottle, made by Ardagh Glass, which reduced pack weight by 20% to 210g.
