Artus was previously chief development officer at Fitch Worldwide, which works in branding, retail design and product development.
A spokesperson confirmed that 1HQ would be looking to work more globally and with more international clients.
1HQ chairman and founder John Sandom said: “Under Mark’s leadership, I believe we are well placed to seize opportunities and develop as a global brand agency.”
Sandom added that the economic climate could make packaging an even more important part of the marketing mix.
“Mark and I believe in the creative ‘cocktail’ offered by the 1HQ group and know this is incredibly potent to clients that don’t see advertising and advertising planning as the only salvation,” he said.
Artus takes up his post this week.
