News editor Simeon Goldstein on Marmite’s ‘secret’ new pack

Marmite. You either love it or you hate it. And while the product doesn’t do anything for me, I must confess to quite liking this special edition pack that Core Design has created for members of the brand’s Marmarati ‘secret society’.

The pack has been created as a reward for the die-hard Marmite fans who helped create a buzz around Unilever’s new extra-matured Marmite XO flavour that will be launched this month. It’s a simple design but one that is very effective.

While the size and shape of the bottle leave no doubt as to what the product is, eschewing the iconic red and yellow livery for a black lid and wax seal certainly plays with the idea of a secret society and a commemorative item for an important event.

The Marmarati gold seal was created using an embossing tool made by Main Titles in London and the black label was printed by Etiquette Labels in Wrexham. The pack lids have been finished with a watchstrap detail and have been individually signed and numbered by ‘Lord Marmarati’ himself. What more could the avid Marmite fan want?
