Davies Hall has designed new branding and packaging for the Rare Tea Company, which has helped it to gain new stockists including Waitrose.

The teas, sourced directly from Chinese growers, were previously sold in foil packs, which major retailers had been reluctant to stock.

London-based branding and packaging consultancy Davies Hall moved Rare Tea into aluminium tins, which improved stability and shelf standout as well as communicating the premium quality of the tea.

The tins and labels are produced and filled in China. Since the redesign, Rare Tea has gained listings in Waitrose and high-end delis across the UK.

Davies Hall creative director Rob Hall said: “We developed a typographic identity based on a European calligraphic reworking of Chinese type, which when used with the textile patterns gives the range authenticity with a fresh contemporary look.”
