Madonna tattooist designs pack for new Thorntons range

Thorntons has turned to celebrity henna tattoo artist Ash Kumar to decorate the packaging for its new Eid and Diwali range of chocolates

Ash Kumar, whose clients include Madonna, Julia Roberts, Shilpa Shetty and Demi Moore, has created a black and gold design inspired by his henna artwork.

Simply Cartons manufactures all the packaging for Thorntons’ Classics range and will add new Eid and Diwali edition to its portfolio.

This is the first project in which Thorntons has worked with Kumar, but a further line of wedding favours aimed at the Asian market is planned for February.

“This is the first time Thorntons has designed a product specially for Eid and Diwali,” said Thorntons brand manager Emma Dickinson. “These are growing festivals in the UK and confectionery gifting plays a large part of them.”

Ash Kumar added that the gifting is “something the Asian community prides itself on”.

“Working with Thorntons is exciting as well as a different venture for the Ash Kumar Group of companies,” said Kumar. “This is the first of many projects I’m confident will be a great success at Thorntons with Ash Kumar.”
