Waitrose has become the first UK supermarket to use an innovative strip laminated paper solution from Amcor Flexibles for packaging fresh produce.

Initially developed for chilled fresh food products, such as cheese and meat, Amcor Panorama consists of paper, strip laminated to 35-micron OPP to create a clear window, allowing product visibility.

Waitrose has adopted the packaging for three of the products within its own-label range of prepared vegetables: Green Vegetable Selection with Pesto Butter, Garden Vegetables with a Lemon & Mint Butter and Mushroom & Tenderstem Broccoli with Garlic & Chilli Butter.

Using P-Plus MAP technology, the packaging has been designed for optimised shelf life while the clear window and anti-mist system enhance visibility of the vegetables.

Amcor claims the combination of the natural look and feel of paper with the functionality of flexible packaging technology helps to provide a look and feel that emphasises the traditional and high-quality nature of the product.

The packs are flexo-printed eight colours by Amcor sister company Flexibles Venus and the pre-made bags are then packed by Prep Direct.
