Finns fêted in youth awards

A college in Finland won the most awards at the Student and Schools Starpack Awards.

Finland’s Lahti Institute of Design received the Eric Dickens Memorial Award after winning 24 awards in the competition, which recognises institutions that encourage children to consider packaging and packaging design as a career choice.

IOM3 chief executive Bernie Rickinson, who hosted the awards, said the number of entrants had been higher than ever before, with 148 projects submitted for the Schools award.

Lahti Institute student Monika Osinska won best in show, a gold star and the sponsored Marks & Spencer and Korsnäs Frovi Award for her Easter egg carton pack.

M&S packaging co-ordinator Hanna Isseyegh said the pack had “great shelf impact”.

“It is an innovative concept and is easily adaptable to a number of applications.”
