O-I produces 'chilled' whisky bottle

O-I has manufactured a coated glass bottle for the launch of Snow Grouse, a new Scotch whisky from the makers of The Famous Grouse.

The Edrington Group (TEG) has designed the Snow Grouse to be drunk at room temperature or "straight from the freezer" – the first Scotch to be served chilled, the firm said.

The bottle, which is produced at O-I's Alloa plant, retains the tall, angular shape of the Famous Grouse bottle. Water slide transfers and masks are applied, and the bottles are then disk coated using organic paint to create an etch-effect finish.

Pocket Rocket designed the graphic elements, which are printed in seven colours by MRS Transfers. The bottle also has a printed ROPP long-skirted closure from Guala.

Angela Spink, packaging technologist at the Edrington Group, said the bottle was the result of a "great collaborative effort" between the production and engineering departments and suppliers.

The new brand is currently being launched on the international duty free market.
