HMV launches bag for life

Music retailer HMV is set to become the latest high street retailer to launch its own bag for life with a record bag alternative made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.

The record bag has been designed for HMV by London-based global brand consultant Venturethree and manufactured by Merseyside bag manufacturer, Smith Bateson.

From the end of September an edition of the bag will be on sale in HMV with the famous "Nipper" icon on the front and with an iPod pouch inside and adjustable strap. Equivalent bags will be available at its sister company Fopp.

The company has said the bags, which will retail at £2, will be profit neutral with 50 pence going to children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

A spokesman from HMV said the retailer will continue to operate a "dual" system of plastic bags and bags for life, although all customers are now asked if they require a bag rather than simply being given one with their purchase.

He said: "At this stage we do not feel that we can get rid of them because of customer demand."
