O-I speeds up bottle decoration for the Snow Grouse

O-I is sending bottles from Scotland to France to speed up the decoration of The Snow Grouse bottles in response to rapid sales growth for the chilled whisky brand.

The Snow Grouse was originally launched on the duty-free market last year as an extension of the Famous Grouse brand, but has since been introduced to retailers in the Netherlands and is set to be rolled out to other European markets in coming months.

O-I previously made the glass bottles at its Alloa plant where they were decorated using hand-applied transfers and an organic paint coating, but this had a limited capacity.

The bottles are still being manufactured at O-I’s plant in Alloa before being shipped to France for screen-printing and satin etching, which is a faster process to keep up with growing demand.

Angela Spink, packaging technologist at The Edrington Group that owns the Famous Grouse brand, said managing for brand growth was a crucial component of any packaging project.

“Working with O-I, we are able to keep pace with demand by flexing the packaging supply methods as required,” she said.
