January 30, 2009 Comments Off

SAAM Mountain Vineyards has collaborated with a number of packaging firms to produce two wines for this year’s Comic Relief event

The vineyard provided the wines at cost, while JF Hillebrand shipped it at a reduced rate and Quinn Glass bottled it for a special price.

Erbin provided the capsules and Multiprint produced the labels at cost, while retailers stocking the wine are working at reduced margins.

The wine is packed in lightweight 356g bottles, a saving of up to 23% on a conventional bottle, which average about 460g.

Also, flint (clear) glass bottles were used because it more easily recycled in the UK.

Artist Damian Hirst designed the labels, which feature tasting notes by wine experts Jancis Robinson and Tim Atkin.

Bottles of Red Nose Red and Red Nose White will go on sale across the UK on 1 February for £4.99, £1 from the price of each bottle will be donated to Comic Relief.

Retailers including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons, Somerfield, Waitrose, M&S and Booths will stock the wines.
