PepsiCo plans to change its packaging more than 35 times in the next year in a worldwide campaign to target teens and young adults.

Pepsi has only changed its brand a total of 10 times in the 109 years since its creation, but now plans to introduce new graphics to its bottles and cans every few weeks.

The revamps are limited to graphic designs so packaging production will remain with existing contractors.

The new pack designs, to be unveiled in February, will include images from the worlds of sport, music, fashion and motoring.

Bruno Gruwez, marketing director for Pepsi Beverages UK said: “The new pack graphics are part of a global brand re-style reflecting a 3D campaign aimed at bringing consumers closer to the Pepsi brand.

“Last year’s Max Your Life campaign with its extensive digital components (including a partnership with YouTube.com) initiated this process in the UK.”

The public will be invited to enter an online competition to redesign a Pepsi billboard ad to be located in New York’s Times Square from April.
