The rostered groups, which include some smaller agencies, are Blue Marlin, Brandme, Bulletproof Design, Embrace Brands, Foster and Baylis Design and Storm Brand Design.
The review is understood to encompass non-food and food packaging, including the Taste the Difference, So Organic and Basics ranges.
Work will be assigned on a project by project basis. Head of packaging design Laura Tovey-Keane was responsible for compiling the roster.
Brandme worked on the creation of the premium Taste the Difference brand. Parker Williams, which also worked on the Taste the Difference range, is not on the roster.
The Sainsbury’s Basics and So Organic ranges were both redesigned by Williams Murray Hamm, which is not on the roster.
The Basics range is the retailer’s fastest growing, up 40% on 2007. So Organic became the UK’s leading own-label organic brand within six months of its redesign.
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said the roster process had been very comprehensive and as a result it was unlikely the retailer would work with off-roster agencies.
