Seymourpowell is to expand its work in packaging design with the addition of Loewy Brands & Packaging.

The move combines Seymourpowell’s experience in structural packaging design with Loewy Brands & Packaging’s work in 2D graphic packaging design.

Seymourpowell director of packaging Neil Hirst said: “Since joining two years ago I’ve been actively trying to make our packaging offer more complete by having a fully fledged graphic design team. We looked at getting individuals in and buying into another company, but trying to find a culture that fits is very difficult.”

Hirst added that it was not just about putting to companies together but about creating a foundation from which to go forward.

Seymourpowell has worked in structural packaging design for six years, most notably for Unilever. Loewy Brands & Packaging has worked on graphic branding project for clients including Nestle, Danone and Johnson & Johnson over the past 18 years.

Both Seymourpowell and Loewy Brands & Packaging are part of the Loewy Group of companies.

Loewy Brands & Packaging is becoming part of Seymourpowell and takes the staff number to 85. Hirst said ideally the company would look for bigger premises but given the economic climate it would have to be cautious.

In December, Seymourpowell co-founder Dick Powell was appointed as Loewy Group creative director.
