Smurfit Kappa develops embossing tool for corrugated packs

The effect is created by an embossing tool which fits onto the flat bed die cutter’s cutting form, allowing the company to emboss logos, numbers, letters and shapes onto corrugated board.
 
The technology was developed with Ralegh, the manufacturer of printing plates and lasercut flatbed and rotary cutting dies, over a 12-month period.

The company says a nationwide pizza restaurant and delivery chain is expected to be the first to use the embossed corrugated products.
 
Dave Powell, regional design manager of Smurfit Kappa South West, said: “With packaging playing an ever increasing role in consumer product marketing, the utilisation of this technology will enable further stand-out and high impact for our clients.”

Smurfit Kappa UK is made up of 36 facilities, including five regional corrugated divisions, each twinned with sheet plants, as well as specialist plants for sheetfeeding, composites tubes, lokfast solidboard divisions, heavy duty, XXL products, point of sale & display, packaging solutions, stationery products and machine systems.
