Sun Chemical colour guide promises better matching

Sun Chemical claims packaging designers will be able to better match brand owners’ specifications with a new colour guide.

SmartColour, which is launched by the inks manufacturer today (4 October), harmonises colours by looking at a brand's palette and replacing similar colours with a single one that is "optimally reproduceable for specific substrates or packaging structures".

Patrice Aurenty, general manager of Sun Chemical's colour management division, said: "As the complexity of packaging increases, there is a need for tools to provide colour consistency and integrity."

SmartColour can be used as a Photoshop plug-in to enable designers to visualise the final result by printing colour-accurate proofs.

Aurenty said it would be of value for the whole supply chain. For brands it provides a customised library of colours to send to suppliers and pre-press companies benefit from a reduced pool of colours and less proofing.

"SmartColour makes it faster and cheaper to get packaging onto the shelf with better colour accuracy," he added.

At last week's Labelexpo, Belgian firm EskoArtwork launched its PacVantage software that "guarantees" the colour of the proof is the same as on the press.
