In this instalment of Mintel’s round-up of new packs from around the globe: a cosmetics pack with added bite, a shining example of adding value to a haircare product and a hot new way of serving sauces

The Hershey Company chocolate gift pack
Under the Hershey’s Kisses brand in China, the company has produced an excellent rigid box for its Fantasy mix. The box has a vacuum-formed insert, which contains two chocolate varieties in plastic pouches (160g). As we often see with packs from China, the box has a fold-over lid that clings magnetically to the litho-printed box.

Ghirardelli chocolateGhirardelli chocolate souvenir gift box
From Ghirardelli in the  US, a very clever pack for a selection of chocolate bars. Each bar is wrapped in a foil/LLDPE laminate and a litho-printed paper overwrap. The five varieties are colour-coded and slide into a cartonboard folder, which in turn has a wraparound sleeve printed litho on white lined cartonboard. As the sides remain open, the pack creates the impression of a library of books. Very effective.

DFI BrandsDFI Brands pomegranate body lotion
From Singapore under the Guardian brand, 400ml of yoghurt body lotion is contained in an extrusion blow moulded PVC custom-shaped bottle. The screw-on lockable pump dispenser is injection moulded in polypropylene. Front and back labels are printed flexo on self-adhesive polypropylene.

Be lemon balmBe Products Company rough spot lemon balm
Out of the US from Be Products comes this rough spot lemon balm. 30g of balm is contained in an injection moulded two-part pol lemon. It is activated by a trigger at one end and can then be rubbed on the affected area. The lemon is held in a tuck-in carton with engineered flaps that fold in to provide a holding facility. The carton features a window and is printed litho.

Teisseire drinkTeisseire isotonic grenadine syrup
A sports drink from Teisseire, France. The grenadine isotonic pack contains 600ml of the drink in a specially shaped tinplate cannister. At the top, an injection-moulded polypropylene flip-top closure covers the pouring spout, and a foil seal is found inside prior to using this dilutable product.

IyoseiXeristal Capillary Light Bath
From Argentina, a hair nutrient product. Iyosei Capillary Light Bath contains a surprise – the 200ml bottle is shaped like a light bulb with a flat section on one side and extrusion blow moulded, probably in HDPE. The screw cap feels like a thermoset and has an EPE wad inside. The bottle is housed in a reverse tuck-in windowed carton, printed litho.

Barro MinasBarro Minas conditioner
The cap of this  Barrominas hair conditioner from Brazil employs a new method of opening. 300ml is filled into an oval extrusion blow-moulded HDPE bottle. The flip-top cap opens with one-hand pressure on the front of the cap. Front and back labels are printed flexo on clear self-adhesive polypropylene.

CatarinenseLaboratórios Catarinense guarana pills
Another clever pack from Brazil for guarana pills. Catarinense Spa has filled a flat small oval bottle, extrusion blow moulded in PVC, with the pills. The injection-moulded polypropylene tamper-evident cap features a PVC flowed in wad. A clever 90-degree tuck-in carton takes the bottle by bending top creases back to enlarge the carton opening area. Once inside, the litho-printed carton closes around the bottle.

Verstegen pepper sauceVerstegen pepper sauces
A clever use of packaging for keeping a sauce warm at the table. Verstegen spices and sauces from Holland sell the sauce in an aluminium round tray with an aluminium foil sealing the top. Clipped over the pack is an injection-moulded stand, probably in polypropylene. A well in the centre holds a small candle, and when needed the candle is lit the sauce tray is balanced on the stand. A wraparound card, printed litho, is assembled around the product.
