BPI’s green garden sacks to land on Somerfield shelvesstevenkiernan, 17 July 2007Be the first to comment on this article A new range of 100% biodegradable and compostable garden sacks from British Polythene Industries (BPI) is to hit Somerfield shelves in the next few days.
The 60-litre sacks are designed primarily for the disposal of domestic kitchen and garden waste. BPI already uses the Novamont Mater-Bi biopolymer in bags for packaging fruit and vegetables. Andrew Green, managing director of BPI Recycled Products, said the firm planned to extend the range for industrial applications, for example for use by local authorities. He pointed out, however, that even with EN13432 accreditation, it could still be difficult to convince local authorities that the products were genuinely fully compostable and biodegradable.
