In advance of the publication of a Wrap report on sparkling wines in March, Broadland worked with glass supplier AE Chapman in London to reduce the weight of its 75cl wine bottle from 480g to 400g.
The tolerance level of bottles for carbonated wines needs to be higher than normal to allow for the drinks’ higher pressure level.
Unlike some sparkling wines, champagne is carbonated during fermentation so bottles need to be able to withstand pressure over a prolonged period.
