Corus set to commission waste cleaning systemsliz.wells@haymarket.com, 18 September 2008Be the first to comment on this article Corus Steel Packaging Recycling is looking to commission cleaning systems for waste to increase the quality of material collected. In a report into how it invested packaging recovery notes (PRN) in 2007, CSPR said it was looking for clean-up systems that “enable us to accept material from all the diverse technologies” used in UK waste management. In 2007, CSPR supplied steel can recycling equipment to local authorities, privately-owned materials reprocessing facilities (MRF) and small community schemes. The PRN investments included balers, overband magnets, can sorters and conveyors, as well as providing advice on recycling steel. A quarter of the investments served to increase reprocessing capacity, 55% to support collection infrastructure and the remainder went into management of schemes. CSPR manager David Williams said: “The work of our R&D department and the continued strategic application of PRN funds to improve recycling infrastructure and investing in technology to ensure cleaner materials with a minimum ferrous content of 92%, will help ensure our achievements in recycling continue.” Corus estimates UK steel packaging recycling to have reached about 69% in 2007, passing the European packaging recycling target of 54% two years early.
