Danjim Marketing, the sustainable packaging supplier, is targeting the clothing market with a water-soluble bag made from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).

The men’s shirt bags, which are made in Taiwan, can be made to dissolve in hot or cold water and have a fine glossiness, a high degree of clarity and anti-static.

Managing director Shameem Kazmi said it was also possible to engineer the bags to dissolve at a specific temperature between five and 65 degrees.

“This would be more for industrial use, say laundry bags,” he added. “We’ve also been working on the material to get them to dissolve in under 20 minutes in cold water.”

Kazmi said there had already been interest from fashion retailers in the bags, which can be printed to be identical in style to existing products.
