Ella’s Kitchen, the children’s organic food company, is looking to encourage children to reuse packaging to help raise their awareness of sustainability.

Ella’s Kitchen’s Grow and Win on-pack promotion on multipacks of its Smoothie Fruits calls on children to use the packaging to grow a mini herb garden from seeds provided in the packs.

The challenge is to take pictures of the herb garden and come up with recipe ideas to stand a chance of winning a week-long eco-holiday for the family.

Paul Lindley, founder of Ella’s Kitchen, said the promotion would teach children about food and “get the message about sustainability across in an engaging way”.

Lindley, who named the food range after his daughter, said the firm’s commitment to sustainability was emphasised by its choice of packaging.

He said the firm used 90% recycled cardboard in outer packaging and the pouches used 80% less material than PET bottles, cartons or glass bottles.

“The energy used and environmental impact of making, transporting and destroying our pouch packaging is also significantly less than the alternatives,” he said.

The promotion, launched on 23 March, will run for eight weeks.
