Frutarom fined for breaking waste regulations

Frutarom (UK), which makes food ingredients and flavourings, has been fined 20,000 for breaching packaging waste rules.

The Kettering firm pleaded guilty to non-compliance with the packaging regulations after a routine enquiry found it had not been registered with the Environment Agency or joined a recycling and recovery scheme during 2005 and 2006.

The company also asked the court to take into account two further years of 2003 and 2004.

Businesses are not obliged to recover and recycle packaging themselves, but they must pay a specialist to carry out the work.

Frutarom had avoided paying £14,525 to such a firm from 2003 to 2006.

At the time of writing, the company was unavailable for comment.
