Corus tackles steel recycling

Corus has provided Wastesavers Recycling with an Excel baler to enable it to process more than 800 tonnes of steel packaging a year.

The not-for-profit community recycling organisation in Newport, South Wales, had suffered problems with the flattening equipment used to process steel cans.

Steel is sent from Wastesavers to SimsMetal CanRoute centre and then on to Corus.

"Strong relationships with local collectors are vital to the success of Corus' steel packaging recycling," said Corus Steel Packaging Recycling sustainability projects manager Nicola Bennett.

Wastesavers recycles more than 11,000 tonnes of material from Newport householders' kerbside boxes each year.
