Caffrey's adds temperature indicator to cans

Caffrey's ale is targeting a younger audience by putting a temperature sensitive indicator on its packaging to show consumers when to drink it.

Coors Brewers, which owns the brand, said all new Caffrey's packaging would display a Caffrey's Celtic knot printed in thermochromic ink, which turns blue when it reaches the "ideal drinking temperature".

The new packs will be supported by promotional activities in stores when they go on sale this month.

Caffrey's was developed to be drunk at the same temperature as lagers and is the first ale to use a thermochromic ink design.

Coors portfolio activation director David Wigham said: "We are sure the design will be a big hit with drinkers as well as standing out on shelf and in chillers for retailers."
