Amcor Flexibles has answered Sainsbury's challenge to create a "non-genetically modified, compostable film" for its SO organic wild rocket salad.

The water resistant NaturePlus compostable film is the result of a joint venture between Amcor Flexibles and Flextrus.

Sustainable product development manager at Amcor Flexibles, Peter Ettridge, said it can run at standard speeds on a range of different packaging machines, including in a wet environment.

Ettridge added that it  "hasn't found its limits yet".

Sainsbury's packaging manager Stuart Lendrum added that the film meets customer and sustainability needs "without compromising on shelf life and seal performance requirements".

Around 90% of Sainsbury's organic fresh produce is available in compostable, recycled or recyclable packaging.
