Stanelco has launched a new range of bioplastics with higher temperature capabilities after rebranding its bioplastics business as Biome Bioplastics.

The new BiomeHT range of bioplastics have a softening point of greater than 90 degrees in both wet and dry conditions, making it particularly appealing to the food service sector.

“We’ve done a lot of work in the laboratory and it’s now been validated through trials with customers,” Stanelco chief executive Paul Mines told Packaging News.

BiomeHT 90 is suitable for cutlery and food for hot food applications, sheet and thermoformed products for cups and lids and electrical goods casings applications.

It is made from 80-95% renewable resources, depending on the grade.

Biome Bioplastics is also currently developing multilayer bioplastics to ensure they “flow and adhere in similar ways to normal plastics”, says Mines.

The name Stanelco will be retained for the parent company of the Biome Bioplastics division and the radio frequency division.
