Tesco supports Carbon Trust draft standardstevenkiernan, 12 October 2007Be the first to comment on this article Tesco has thrown its weight behind the Carbon Trust’s draft standard for carbon footprinting to help deliver its customers a “revolution in green consumption”.
Chief executive Sir Terry Leahy said the project would take Tesco "a step closer" to providing the type of information consumers need to make green choices "based on good science". The products fall into five categories: tomatoes, potatoes, orange juice, light bulbs and washing detergent. Carbon Trust chief executive Tom Delay said that, as well as providing information about the impact of its products, Tesco's involvement was "crucial in testing the applicability of the draft standard". On October 1, BSI launched a month-long technical consultation phase with "select stakeholders" to provide comments on the proposed standard. A wider consultation is set to run between February and March 2008. The Carbon Trust launched its carbon reduction label last March with selected products from Boots, Walkers and Innocent. Last month, nine further companies, including Cadbury Schweppes and Coca-Cola, signed up to the scheme. Speak Your Mind |
