Wal-Mart scorecard gets interest from suppliers

Wal-Mart has claimed its new packaging scorecard is responsible for attracting major interest from suppliers in its first month.

The scorecard, which gauges environmental standards, energy efficiency and use of materials, was launched in February. So far, 2,268 product vendors have logged on to the site and 117 products have been entered into the system.

Suppliers can use results from the scorecard to compare their performance with their competitors.

From next year, Wal-Mart buyers will use scorecard figures to inform their purchasing decisions.

Asda, Wal-Mart’s UK arm, is expected to introduce the scheme in the UK soon.
