The Bradford-based CD and DVD packaging specialist has dubbed the pack the WowSpiral.
Unlike traditional CD and DVD packaging, it requires neither glue nor a plastic tray – the spiral forms a clasp to enclose the disc – and the FSC-certified card is printed using vegetable oil-based inks.
Wewow said that customers can order short runs of just 100 units, a move in response to the growing incidence of companies producing limited edition runs.
Communion Records bought into the concept because it was seeking a “creative, eco-friendly” form of packaging for folk artist Peter Roe’s ‘The Merry Go Round’ EP. The WowSpiral was finished in golf foil blocking.
A spokeswoman for Wewow told Packaging News that the WowSpiral has generated interest from other prospective clients, receiving 30 enquiries in the last week alone.
She said: “There has been a lot of interest from independent record labels but also from design and marketing agencies [looking to use the packaging in promotions] and a major CD/DVD manufacturing plant as shown a keen interest in the product.”
