Wrap offers materials prices service

December 5, 2008 Comments Off

Wrap is looking to provide a fortnightly materials price report for recycled materials trade, via its new online forum aimed at helping maintain recycling momentum through the economic downturn

The report will contain up-to-date prices for various grades of paper, glass, plastics and cans as well as insight from market participants on issues affecting the sector.

Firms wishing to see the report must be willing to share their own pricing information on a confidential basis.

The report forms part of Wrap’s advice forum, launched last week aimed at helping local authorities deal with lower prices and weaker demand.

Wrap said that despite concerns there was still a market for some materials, and it wanted to use the internet to share its understanding of the situation with the widest possible audience.

Wrap chief executive Liz Goodwin said it was “imperative not to lose the recycling momentum” and that there were still “markets for most materials”.

“Let’s be clear, material that is not put out for recycling will definitely end up in landfill, which has the worst possible environmental consequences,” she added.

Wrap cited Closed Loop London as one of the facilities that was still collecting material in the UK. (See the latest issue of Packaging News for an exclusive profile of the Dagenham operation).
