Chesapeake buys KBA Rapida printing press

The company chose the KBA Rapida 106, which will be delivered in May, after a “thorough investigation” of all leading press manufacturers.

Chesapeake Greenford’s general manager Roy Brindle said: “It was imperative that we could offer the assurance to our customers that any reverse print would be in perfect registration.

The Rapida 106 runs standard substrates of between 0.06-0.07mm at speeds up to 18,000 sph, but can be modified to run substrates up to 1.6mm corrugated.

The machine was first shown at Drupa 2008 and will be on show at Ipex this year with the new Flying JobChange technology.

“The KBA press did everything we wanted it to including the ability to run lightweight sheets, often 40gsm or below,” said Brindle.

Chesapeake Greenford has been an alcohol-free operation for the last five years and one of the criterion was that the press could run alcohol-free.

Brindle said: “The new generation KBA press benefits from the latest technology which will reduce make-ready times and allow us to deal with smaller order quantities more effectively.”
