PoS specialist SP installs KBA press to boost output

Redditch-based SP, part of St Ives, has installed its KBA Rapida 205 super-large-format sheetfed press as part of a £4.5m investment.

The press can print cartonboard and microflute up to 1.2mm thick. It can run both conventional and UV-curing inks and coatings.

The press will enable point-of-sale specialist SP to provide retailers with better print quality, improve efficiency and reduce lead times.

The Rapida 205 also includes plate changing, height-adjustable non-stop sheet delivery, video register control, and KBA DensiTronic S close-loop colour control.

SP Group’s investment has also included a Screen PlateRite Ultima 36000S VLF computer-to-plate system, in a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment.

SP is the fifth UK company to install the Rapida, following Augustus Martin, Odessa Offset, Capital Print & Display and Norscreen. KBA claims it has a sixth press sale lined up for spring 2007.
