SAICA Pack is increasing production on the corrugator at its Wigan facility, which was installed in the summer.

SAICA began installation of the corrugator in late July and it has been running two shifts since October. This month it will move to three shifts a month.

The 3.35 corrugator is a single-wall machine capable of running B, C and E flute at speeds up to 400m a minute. Annual capacity is expected to reach 200 million square metres of sheet board a year.

The corrugator has sensors at both the wet and dry ends to check the temperature and moisture of the paper and it will automatically adjust the machine depending on the parameters set.

SAICA Pack North managing director Andrew Chamberlain said: “This corrugator enables us to better serve our customers, to provide a top quality product and to do so with a reduced impact on the environment.”

SAICE Pack, part of the Saica Group, employs approximately 1,900 people in 19 sites across the UK and has a turnover of EUR430m.
