Ulma reinforces position on steel

As a result of the investment, the company has opened a stainless steel production facility and a product technology research centre near its headquarters in Spain (pictured). The firm said that both developments will have significant benefits for its UK clients.

The steel manufacturing plant enables Ulma to have complete control of the steel processing of its machine parts, a service which was previously contracted out to other companies. The firm said that by manufacturing its own parts in-house, it can ensure consistent quality.

Meanwhile, the product technology centre will help the company keep up with technological advances in machine engineering. Ulma’s designers and engineers will work on improving existing machines and developing new equipment in line with the changing marketplace.

Derek Paterson, Ulma’s UK director, said: “Our focus remains on providing the UK market with innovative, flexible packaging solutions, which offer added value, quality construction and ease of use. This current investment will support those aims.”

Ulma manufactures machines including horizontal and vertical flow-wrappers, thermoformers and tray sealers, which are suitable for use by low- to high-volume packaging manufacturers.

The firm was established in 1956 in Spain and now has subsidiaries in 14 countries, which employ more than 850 people.
