BCMPA reports ‘good year’ for co-packers

The British Contract Manufacturers and Packers Association (BCMPA) has hailed 2008 as “a good year” for the contract packaging sector, ahead of the Contract Pack trade show that is already fully booked with exhibitors.

BCMPA chief executive Rodney Steel said brand owners were recognising the role of outsourcing for production and marketing and destinations such as the Far East were becoming less attractive.

“This is especially true in the current economic climate, where any increase in commitments to in-house overheads needs to fiercely resisted,” he said.

Contract Pack is part of the Easyfairs packaging event held at the NEC on 11 and 12 February 2009. The other shows are Packaging Innovations, Ecopack and Packtech.

Steel said the show would provide visitors access to co-packers from a range of industry sectors and underlines how firms had, in recent years, expanded to offer a wider spectrum of services.

He added there was now a waiting list for additional space at the show and praised the fact there was now a UK show for the sector.

“So many exhibitions in these industry sectors have been staged in mainland Europe. Now it’s happening in the UK and it’s going to be a very good show.”

An Easyfairs show preview will appear in the January 2009 issue of Packaging News.
