EasyFairs London sales boom as record numbers visit NECJosh Brooks, 26 February 2010Be the first to comment on this article More than 100 exhibitors have signed up to the London edition of easyFairs’ Packaging Innovations show just a week after it was launched. Some 101 exhibitors committed to the 7-8 October show, which will take place at the Business Design Centre in Islington, at the annual NEC packaging jamboree this week. Record numbers of visitors were recorded at the event, which closed yesterday, with this year’s 4,208 figure a 4% increase on last year’s entry number. In addition, some 190 companies have already re-signed for next year’s NEC show. Matt Benyon, easyFairs UK managing director, told Packaging News that both the Birmingham event and the rapid sales for the London event reflected a renewed buoyancy in the industry. “We’re really seeing a bullish feeling out there that perhaps wasn’t there a year ago,” he said. “The feeling at the show was excellent and it was clear that plenty of business was being done.” He added that the high-profile speakers, which included Asda head of packaging Shane Monkman, and the Lions’ Lair format of this year’s learnShops had added an to an “excellent visitor experience”. The London event will focus on attracting visitors from the design and marketing communities as well as packaging buyers from the capital and the South East. Benyon said: “Although the NEC event is a national event, a large proportion of visitors still come from the surrounding area. The industry has been telling us they wanted an event in London and we’ve listened and reacted to that.” Packaging News will be the exclusive media partner on the London show, which will focus on the Packaging Innovations format as well as including zones for the Contract Pack, EcoPack and Print for Packaging shows that have run at the NEC show recently.
